Description

This is a new *Hohma* (Bubble) Platinum Glaze *tokkuri* (sake flask) titled *Hagakure* (Hidden Leaves) by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative work, characteristic of Ichikawa-sensei, who gives form to his ceaseless flow of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. This *tokkuri* from the new *Hohma* series features a base of platinum glaze that appears to be boiling at high temperatures; the stainless steel-like surface revealed by scraping, the *Hagakure* crimson glaze, and the gold-glazed accents that wrap around it as if alive, all overlap to create an avant-garde aesthetic that fully expresses the world of Ichikawa. The innovative form, carved into a hexagonal shape inherited from Kakurezaki-sensei, perfectly suits the intense presence of the piece's landscape. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Rim 3.5cm × Body diameter 8.9cm × Body diameter 8.8cm × Height 14.2cm; Capacity 220cc Toru Ichikawa-sensei was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
