Description
This is a new *shudei* (vermilion clay) and platinum-glazed *tokkuri* sake bottle entitled "泡沫 (Houmatsu/Bubbles)" by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative work that embodies Ichikawa’s signature style of giving form to an endless stream of ideas through clay, the ultimate medium. As a *tokkuri* from his new "Houmatsu" series, it features a base of platinum glaze that appears to be boiling intensely at high temperatures, contrasted by the smooth texture of vermilion clay, and gold-glazed accents that wrap around the piece as if alive. These layers overlap to create an avant-garde landscape that is quintessentially Ichikawa. Each of the three glazes possesses its own distinct beauty, and when applied to the innovative hexagonal faceted form, they deliver an intense visual impact that burns into the memory.
