Description
This is a brand new black cup fresh from the kiln by Masao Akitani, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works overflowing with unique originality within a modern spirit. This is the first new work from Masao Akitani in approximately two years since his last kiln firing. Much like his mentor Jun Isezaki, Akitani-sensei aims to create pieces that resonate with a contemporary sensibility, and this cup is excellent for its orthodox yet refined design. Its versatility is part of its appeal; it can be used as a free cup for tea or shochu, or even as a small serving bowl, taking advantage of its wide rim. The dynamic sesame-glaze (goma) patterns suit the black of the painted clay perfectly, and thanks to the quality of Bizen ware combined with the chic black finish, it is suitable for any time or place, whether Japanese or Western.
