Description

This is a new Oribe sake flask by Toru Ichikawa, who studied under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and made a sensational debut. It is an exceptionally creative work, characteristic of Ichikawa, who brings his endlessly overflowing ideas to life through the supreme medium of clay. True to the name "new Oribe," the piece carries an atmosphere reminiscent of Narumi Oribe, combining vermilion clay slips with Oribe green glaze. It is sharply faceted into a hexagon, and the *chirimen-jiwa* (crepe-like wrinkles) created when the clay was swiftly carved show through the highly transparent green glaze, while a white glaze has been poured over the opaque vermilion clay sections to create a contrast in texture. With its very tall and sharp silhouette, it would also be interesting to use as a single-flower vase to take advantage of the green glaze's coloration. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included.
Rim 3.4cm × Body diameter 8.0cm × Body diameter 6.9cm × Height 14.8cm; Capacity 110cc Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and became independent in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
