Description
This newly fired Bizen sake cup is the work of Mashiro Aiga, an artist known for creating uncompromising, spirited pieces. Among the countless Bizen potters, Aiga stands alone in his mastery of the ash-covered kiln transformation technique. The unparalleled intensity of the firing creates an ash-covered texture reminiscent of a rocky reef, which, combined with a slick, lustrous sheen, evokes the feeling of exploring a coastal cavern. Though the clay surface has been fired to a steel-like hardness, pouring sake into the cup causes its colors to vividly awaken, as if breathing new life into the vessel. This masterpiece captures the true essence of earthenware within the intensity of the firing process.
