Description

This is the debut Bizen beer tumbler by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who has eagerly awaited his debut after studying ceramic techniques under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. These new works were produced during the first firing in late November at the anagama kiln he designed and built himself in Kamigori, Hyogo Prefecture. The clean, bright, amber-colored surface—achieved through a slightly oxidative firing—and the scattered sesame glaze give these tumblers a refined and vibrant atmosphere, making them wonderful for everyday use. In particular, the clay texture, which shows a sheen ranging from amber to scarlet with fine scattered sesame, is nearly identical to that of his mentor, serving as proof of his diligent research into clay and kilns. The "dōjime-kine" (waisted pestle-shaped) form is not only interesting from a design perspective but also easy to hold, and with its ideal thickness and weight, it is finished to be user-friendly and stress-free. The base and the area nearby feature an auspicious "left-facing horse" (hidarigoma) stamp, commemorating the first kiln firing. Paper box
