Description
This is the debut Bizen beer cup by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who has finally launched his career after honing his ceramic skills under the guidance of Ryuichi Kakurezaki. These new works were produced during his inaugural kiln firing in late November, following the construction of his own anagama kiln in Kamigori, Hyogo Prefecture. The clear, bright, amber-toned surface, achieved through a slightly oxidative firing, combined with the scattered splashes of sesame glaze, gives the piece a clean, elegant aesthetic that is wonderful for everyday use. In particular, the earthy texture—shimmering from amber to scarlet and accented with fine, scattered sesame glaze—bears a striking resemblance to his mentor's work, serving as a testament to his dedicated research into clay and kiln firing. The form, featuring a cinched waist and pestle-like shape, is not only visually intriguing but also comfortable to hold; its moderate thickness and weight make it stress-free and easy to use. The foot and its surrounding area are stamped with an auspicious "left-facing horse" mark to commemorate the inaugural firing.
