Description

This is the debut Bizen beer cup by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who has finally made his long-awaited debut after learning pottery techniques under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. These new works were produced in the first firing of an anagama kiln he designed and built himself in Kamigori, Hyogo Prefecture, which was opened at the end of November. The clean, bright, amber-colored surface—achieved through a slightly oxidizing atmosphere—and the scattered sesame glaze give it a fresh and vibrant feel, making it a wonderful piece for everyday use. In particular, the earthy quality, featuring a luster ranging from amber to scarlet with fine splashes of sesame glaze, is the spitting image of his mentor's work, serving as proof of his dedicated research into clay and kilns. The "dojime kine-gata" (pestle-shaped with a constricted body) design is visually interesting while also being easy to hold, and combined with its ideal thickness and weight in the hand, it makes for a stress-free, user-friendly vessel. To commemorate the first firing, a lucky "left-facing horse" (hidari-uma) stamp has been applied to the foot and its side. Paper box
