Description
This is a Bizen yohen sake cup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. This piece was fired a second time after an initial successful firing, resulting in a striking, unique appearance with a heavy, green-tinted natural ash glaze reminiscent of Iga ware. Complementing the bold green natural glaze are black kiln-effect markings caused by iron, and the clay body itself has transformed into a metallic, copper-like hue, showcasing a different side of Bizen ware resulting from the intense firing process. The sculpted form, boldly carved with a spatula to utilize Mr. Baba's sculptural sensibility, is also a sight to behold. (Please note that there are marks on the rim and the base where the piece was removed after firing.)
