Description

This Bizen sake server is the work of Takashi Baba, who was born in Imbe, has loved Bizen ware since childhood, and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. Its unique form seems to be a modern refinement of the *teppoguchi* (gun-muzzle style) water coolers and *katakuchi* (spouted bowls) crafted by potters of the Showa era. After using a potter's wheel to narrow the rim to its limit, Baba-sensei carves out two spouts with the refined, unique sense of style for which he is known. The *kinsai hidaski* (gold-colored fire-cord pattern), a signature feature of his kiln, matches perfectly with the sharp form created by the beveled surfaces. Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 9.0cm x Diameter 8.8cm x Height 12.0cm
(Diameter is measured by the width of the base; height is measured from the base to the spout) Takashi Baba-sensei was born in 1983 as the eldest son of Bizen ware artist Shosuke Baba. Thinking from a young age that he would become a potter, he chose to study sculpture in university to broaden the scope of his craft. He graduated from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo University of the Arts in 2006 and further honed his skills at the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Technology and Culture. He became independent in 2007 and held his first solo exhibition. Currently, he is active primarily through solo exhibitions at department stores.
