Description

This is a brand new Bizen sake cup, fresh from the kiln by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist and former apprentice to the late master Sozan Kaneshige. This latest work, taken from the kiln in January 2017, features a striking harmony between the intense kiln transformation born of an aggressive firing technique and the magnificent scarlet color derived from high-quality clay. The scarlet hue is not a single, uniform shade but a complex, deep, and three-dimensional masterpiece, with variations in intensity and hints of gold mixed throughout. Consequently, the scarlet on the front captures the eye, creating a landscape that resembles a flickering flame due to its three-dimensional effect. Even when looking at the vessel as a whole, the transitions of the scarlet are remarkably dynamic, and combined with the changes in the scarlet itself during use, it provides an endlessly engaging experience while drinking. Diameter 6.4cm × Diameter 6.3cm × Height 5.6cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, who loved ceramics, he aspired to pursue pottery. After graduating from high school in 1989, he apprenticed under master Sozan Kaneshige and his son Ariyoshi to learn the craft. After seven years of training, he established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City in 1996, and successfully fired his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, he was selected for the "Kita no Kashiki" (Northern Sweets Container) Exhibition, and in 2002, he was selected for the "Chanoyu no Zokei" (Forms of Tea Ceremony) Exhibition for the first time.
