Description

This is the latest sake cup, "Salamander Black" with gold and platinum accents, freshly taken from the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakinozaki. It is an exceptionally creative work, true to Ichikawa-sensei’s style of shaping his boundless ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to the "Black" title, the bubbling gold-leaf expression seen in his "Salamander" series has been replaced by a bubbling black glaze, which, combined with a rich, dark crimson glaze, dramatically shifts the atmosphere of the piece. The distinctive black glaze looks like the scales of a lizard, living up to the "Salamander" name, and possesses a sensual allure more reminiscent of leather than pottery. Fine grains within the bubbling gold accents have been randomly changed to gold leaf in several places, a testament to Ichikawa-sensei’s meticulous attention to detail. The gold leaf further enhances the charm of the signature black glaze, resulting in a mysterious, extraordinary work that feels like a fusion of leather goods, goldsmithing, and pottery. Original signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for delivery).
Diameter 6.4cm × Diameter 6.3cm × Height 6.8cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began studying under Ryuichi Kakinozaki in June 2011 and became independent in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
