Description

This Bizen sake cup is a brand-new release from the kiln of Kazuki Nakamura, an artist whose work draws from the deep, refined tradition of his grandfather, Rokuro Nakamura, and his father, Makoto Nakamura. While inheriting the mastery of his predecessors, Kazuki has infused this cup with a unique style that subtly distinguishes it from those of his father and grandfather. The sake bottle, based on the signature Nakamura-style *henko* (flattened) *kabu* (turnip-shaped) form, is designed so that when the neck is held between the fingers, the palm and the body of the piece feel as one. The intense firing of the *haikaburi* (ash-covered) technique, which has carbonized part of the surface into a silvery hue, blends beautifully with the rich, melted-fruit scarlet of the clay, creating a piece that invites you to enjoy and cultivate it with every use. Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for shipping).
Rim 3.8cm x Body diameter 11.0cm x Body diameter 10.8cm x Height 10.4cm. Capacity approx. 330cc. Kazuki Nakamura was born in 1980 as the eldest son of Makoto Nakamura. After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Okayama University in 2003, he studied under his grandfather and father to hone his pottery skills. He fired his first kiln and became independent in 2006.
