Description

This is a freshly fired Bizen *hidasuki* (fire-cord) sake cup by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who carries on the lineage of the late masters Rokuro and Makoto Nakamura to create works of profound character. While continuing the tradition of these legendary sake vessel makers, this cup showcases Kazuki’s unique style, subtly distinguishing his creative voice from that of his father and grandfather. Though *hidasuki* is the most basic firing technique—one that allows for no margin of error—he has succeeded in crafting a piece that captures the quality of the clay as masterfully as his predecessors. The piece is particularly striking in the way the unique, memorable contours of the rim and the carving of the foot harmonize perfectly with the *hidasuki* markings; the undulating form is accented by a thick, rich crimson hue, possessing a seductive quality that seems to drift with the fragrant aroma of the earth. Signed wooden box (two-way crossbar construction)
Diameter 8.5cm × Diameter 8.4cm × Height 3.4cm Kazuki Nakamura was born in 1980 as the eldest son of Makoto Nakamura. After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Okayama University in 2003, he studied under his grandfather and father to hone his ceramic skills. He fired his first kiln and became an independent artist in 2006.
