Description
This is a new painted Bizen sake cup by Anjin Abe, an artist with profound insight into and an aesthetic sense for antique pottery, who creates one-of-a-kind works through his original research and firing techniques. A majestic Mount Fuji is depicted in a bold composition against a background of vibrant red, with the snowy peak painted in a smooth white, making for a richly colorful overall design. A radiant golden moon shines to the side, beautifully capturing an auspicious scene with a sophisticated yet powerful touch. The reverse side features a unique dragonfly, also accented with bright gold for the eyes. The sides and interior are finished with thick, rich yellow sesame glaze (kigoma), showcasing the firing technique that has impressed fans of antique Bizen and providing a visual delight from every angle.

Diameter 6.8cm x Diameter 6.0cm x Height 6.0cm Anjin Abe was originally a Western-style painter. After collecting ceramics as a hobby and feeling unsatisfied with contemporary Bizen ware, he began his own pottery practice in 1972 to create pieces that met his own standards. He frequently creates water jars, flower vases, flattened vases, bowls, sake bottles, and sake cups, all of which are wheel-thrown and finished with a spatula. His work is centered on the antique Bizen style of the Momoyama period, with meticulous attention given to the firing process. He is also actively engaged in diverse forms of creative expression, presenting mixed-media works that combine various materials and techniques, such as ceramics, lacquer, oil painting, and bronze. He holds solo exhibitions energetically both in Japan and abroad, including in Tokyo, Osaka, New York, and Paris.
