Description

This is a Bizen plate by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist who was an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. The work offers a glimpse into the lively expression of the clay characteristic of Koriki-sensei, who was trained by the father-son duo of Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige and entrusted with the secret of clay preparation deeply rooted in the Kaneshige school. It is a somewhat large, versatile plate, yet it is light in weight, calling to mind the image of Koriki-sensei skillfully shaping the clay on the potter's wheel. The rim is firmly raised, making it suitable for dishes with some liquid. To prevent staining, please moisten the plate with a little water before use; this will also make the scarlet color appear more vibrant, adding to the visual enjoyment. Paper box
Diameter 27.2cm × 26.4cm × Height 4.4cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his pottery-loving father, he aspired to a career in ceramics. After graduating from high school in 1989, he studied ceramic techniques under the father-son team of Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige. Following seven years of training, he established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and successfully produced his first firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Exhibition of Confectionery Bowls from the North that I Want to Use," and in 2002, it was selected for the "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
