Description
This is "Céladon №5," a brand-new sake cup fresh from the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative work that embodies Ichikawa’s signature style of manifesting his boundless ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to its title, "Céladon"—French for celadon—the piece utilizes a cool, refreshing celadon glaze perfect for summer, expressing an entirely new worldview. The celadon glaze, edged with gold, features fine crackles that possess the beauty of ice, boasting the high level of perfection one expects from an artist so dedicated to glaze research. Its counterpart, the black Kagutsuchi glaze, emits a moderate luster and carries a presence like molten iron, accentuating the beauty and coolness of the celadon glaze. Within this cool color palette of pale blue and matte black, Ichikawa’s trademark sharp-edged form fits perfectly.
