Description
This is a brand new sake cup, "Céladon №5," just out of the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakizaki. It is an exceptionally creative work, true to Mr. Ichikawa's style of shaping his endless flow of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to its title, "Céladon," the French word for celadon, it uses a refreshing, cool-toned celadon glaze that is perfect for summer, expressing a whole new worldview. The celadon glaze, bordered with gold, features fine crackles that possess the beauty of ice, boasting the high level of perfection one expects from Mr. Ichikawa, who is passionate about glaze research. The paired black Kagutsuchi glaze emits a moderate luster, its molten iron-like presence accentuating the beauty and coolness of the celadon glaze. Within this cool color palette of pale blue and matte black, the edge-focused form typical of Mr. Ichikawa is a perfect match.
