Description

This is "Céladon №5," a brand-new sake cup just out of the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakizaki. It is an exceptionally creative work that exemplifies Mr. Ichikawa's approach of giving form to his endless stream of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. As the title "Céladon"—the French word for celadon—suggests, the piece expresses a new worldview using a cool, refreshing celadon glaze that is perfect for summer. The celadon glaze, edged with gold leaf, features fine crackle patterns with an ice-like beauty, boasting the high level of perfection one expects from Mr. Ichikawa, who is passionate about glaze research. The contrasting black "Kagutsuchi" glaze emits a moderate luster, its appearance like molten iron, which serves to accentuate the beauty and coolness of the celadon glaze. Amidst the cool color palette of pale blue and matte black, Mr. Ichikawa's signature edgy form fits perfectly. Signed wooden box to be provided at a later date (please allow some time for delivery)
