Description
This is a newly kiln-fired sake cup, "will-Champagnegold 'Oiran гейша'," by Toru Ichikawa, who studied under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and made a sensational debut. It is a highly original and exceptional work that captures the essence of Ichikawa-sensei, who gives form to his inexhaustible ideas through the supreme medium of clay. In addition to "Oiran," the title includes "гейша" (the Russian word for geisha), expressing a gorgeous and brilliant world where gold and platinum accents are layered with glazes. By applying pale-colored glazes over the gold, he has succeeded in drawing out a mysterious, iridescent hue. Cream-yellow tones layered over the platinum accents create a landscape that is both three-dimensional and profound, yet pale and delicate in color. The glazing process, which feels as though it is dressing the piece in multiple layers of garments, is fascinating and truly fitting for the title, evoking a geisha adorned in elaborate attire. The black glaze, with its intricate and intense *kairagi* (crackle) texture, perfectly accentuates the delicately colored gold sections.
