Description
This is "Céladon №3," a brand-new sake cup fresh from the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is a highly original and exceptional piece, characteristic of Ichikawa, who gives form to his inexhaustible ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to its title "Céladon"—the French word for celadon—it features a refreshing, summery celadon glaze, expressing a new artistic vision. The celadon glaze, rimmed with gold, displays a fine crackle pattern of ice-like beauty, boasting the high level of perfection expected of Ichikawa, who is passionate about glaze research. The contrasting black Kagutsuchi glaze emits a moderate luster, its appearance like molten iron, enhancing the beauty and coolness of the celadon glaze. As this is "№3," the celadon glaze has greater translucency, allowing the platinum underglaze to shine through, while in thicker areas, the crackles form a deeply three-dimensional landscape.
