Description

This is a brand new *tokkuri* (sake bottle) fresh from the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is a highly original and exceptional piece, characteristic of Ichikawa-sensei, whose boundless ideas take shape through the supreme medium of clay. This latest work was created between the end of July and August. The title, "Un été-," is French for "a summer." The addition of "HANABI" (fireworks) reflects the glaze he developed based on the fireworks he witnessed in Okayama. On a unique fluorescent base that defies a clear definition between yellow and green, splashes of crimson glaze depict the trajectory of exploding fireworks. The platinum-leaf base has also evolved into a glaze texture reminiscent of lunar craters, showcasing the adventurous spirit of an artist who is constantly searching for new forms of beauty. Signed wooden box to follow at a later date (please allow some time for shipping).
Rim 3.7cm x Body diameter 8.8cm x Body diameter 8.6cm x Height 13.8cm; Capacity 150cc Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
