Description
This Bizen sake bottle is the work of Kosuke Yashiro, who spent years in apprenticeship dreaming of working with Bizen ware in the town of Imbe, and finally realized his lifelong ambition by building his own kiln there and making his debut. It is a quintessential Bizen piece that reflects the spirit of Yashiro, who was born and raised in Imbe and dedicated his life to Bizen pottery after falling in love with the works of the many potters who lived and died in this land. The "imo-tokkuri" (potato-shaped sake bottle) was built up slowly and deliberately, reaffirming the rustic, warm, and timeless appeal of Bizen ware. The firing process represents a return to the roots of Bizen, featuring a "haikaburi" (ash-covered) kiln transformation; the rich, light-gray ash glaze pairs beautifully with the gentle, earthy tones of the "nuke" (uncovered areas), showcasing the quality of the clay. Created with local mountain soil, the overall form is relaxed, with a slightly thick neck and a short rim that possess a charming, rustic depth.
