Description
This is a Bizen sake cup by Kosuke Yashiro, who spent his formative years dreaming of working with Bizen ware in Ibe, and finally realized his lifelong ambition by building his own kiln there to make his debut. Born and raised in Ibe, Yashiro-sensei developed a deep fascination for the works of the many potters who lived and passed away in this land, and his straightforward approach to Bizen ware reflects his commitment to making it his life's work. This piece is fired extremely intensely; over a yellowish-green *goma* (sesame glaze) reminiscent of the work of Toshu Yamamoto, a well-melted *haikaburi* (ash covering) rests while forming a sea-cucumber-like texture. It is a firing that can almost be described as a complete ash covering, with only the foot left exposed, revealing the raw clay. The foot itself features a golden hue over the earthen texture, creating a striking contrast with the vivid orange of the intense kiln transformation.
Signed wooden box to be provided at a later date (please allow some time for shipping).
