Description

This is "Céladon №5," a sake cup by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative work that truly reflects Ichikawa-sensei's style of giving form to his endless stream of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to the title "Céladon," the French word for celadon, he has used a cool, summery celadon glaze to express yet another new worldview. The celadon glaze, trimmed with gold leaf, features fine crackles that possess the beauty of ice—a testament to the high level of perfection expected of Ichikawa-sensei, who is passionate about glaze research. The contrasting black Kagutsuchi glaze emits a subtle luster and, with a presence reminiscent of molten iron, enhances the beauty and coolness of the celadon glaze. Amidst the cool color palette of pale blue and matte black, Ichikawa-sensei's signature edgy design feels right at home. Tomobako (signed wooden box with four-way mitered corners)
