Description
This Bizen-ware katakuchi (spouted bowl) is by Kosuke Yashiro, who spent his formative years working toward the dream of practicing his craft in Imbe, finally achieving his goal by building his own kiln there and making his debut. It is a quintessential piece of Bizen ware, reflecting Yashiro’s dedication to a life’s work inspired by the many potters who were born, raised, and eventually passed away in the historic region of Imbe. The sophisticated, slightly greenish *kase-goma* (dull sesame glaze) combined with a clay body that features an exquisite gradation from orange to shiso-red creates a delicate and graceful aesthetic that can only be achieved through a wood-fired climbing kiln. Although originally intended as a sake vessel, the shape of the spout led to its final design as a dish, resulting in a piece that is exceptionally well-crafted. The gentle indentations from his fingers show how slowly and carefully the clay was shaped, giving the piece a rounded, soft presence with softened edges. With its charming spout design, this lovely work is sure to brighten up your dining table while showcasing the true pleasure of Bizen-ware tableware.
