Description
This is a Bizen rectangular dish by Kosuke Yashiro, who spent his formative years dreaming of working with Bizen ware in Imbe, and finally realized his long-held ambition by building his own kiln there and making his debut. It is a quintessential piece of Bizen ware that reflects Mr. Yashiro’s commitment to making this his life’s work, inspired by the numerous potters who were born, raised, and passed away in Imbe. Created using mountain clay, it features a soft finish with a surface covered in fine, matte sesame glaze (kase-goma) and gentle, subtle flashes of scarlet (hi-iro). The piece demonstrates the meticulous craftsmanship characteristic of Mr. Yashiro; while the four sides are irregularly shaped—as if hand-beaten—to highlight the soft texture of the clay, the thickness is precisely calculated and uniform, making it highly practical for everyday use. Its rustic charm, typical of Bizen ware, makes it versatile enough to serve a variety of dishes, including Pacific saury.
