Description
This is a Bizen rectangular dish by Kosuke Yashiro, who spent his formative years dreaming of working with Bizen ware in Imbe, finally achieving his long-held ambition by building his own kiln there and making his debut. It is a straightforward piece of Bizen ware that truly reflects Yashiro-sensei’s dedication; he was born and raised in Imbe, fell in love with the works of the many potters who lived and died in that land, and chose Bizen pottery as his life’s work. Crafted from mountain clay, it has a soft finish with a fine, matte sesame glaze (kase-goma) covering the surface, and gentle, subtle hues of scarlet (hi-iro) throughout. The piece showcases Yashiro-sensei’s hallmark meticulous craftsmanship; while the four edges are shaped with an irregular, hand-beaten appearance to bring out the softness of the clay, the thickness is precisely calculated and uniform, making it highly practical for use. It features the rustic charm characteristic of Bizen ware and is versatile enough to serve dishes such as Pacific saury and more.
