Description
This is "Céladon №5," a sake cup by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative piece, true to Ichikawa-sensei, who gives shape to his endlessly overflowing ideas through the supreme material of clay. As the title "Céladon"—French for celadon porcelain—suggests, it features a cool, refreshing celadon glaze. The fine crackle pattern in the glaze possesses an icy beauty, boasting the high level of perfection one expects from Ichikawa-sensei, who is deeply committed to the study of glazes. The contrasting black Kagutsuchi glaze emits a subtle luster, its presence reminiscent of molten iron, which enhances the beauty and coolness of the celadon glaze. Amidst the cool color palette of pale blue and matte black, Ichikawa-sensei's signature edgy form fits perfectly.
