Description

This is a newly kiln-fired sake cup, "Céladon-Red," by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative work, embodying Mr. Ichikawa’s signature style of manifesting his ceaseless flow of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to its title, "Céladon"—the French word for celadon—it features a cool, refreshing celadon glaze. Furthermore, this piece uses a special red clay as the base, which allows a unique reddish hue to peek through the ice-blue celadon glaze, completely transforming the impression of the finish. The piece features Mr. Ichikawa’s characteristically sharp-edged molding, and the shades of blue and red shift intricately in response to the curves of each section, creating a truly beautiful effect. The lower portion is adorned with gold leaf over the red clay, evoking a mysterious atmosphere as if it were cast from a gold nugget. Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for shipping)
