Description

This is the new sake cup "Céladon №6" by Toru Ichikawa, who studied under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and made a sensational debut. It is an exceptionally creative piece, characteristic of Ichikawa-sensei, who gives form to his inexhaustible flow of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. As suggested by the title "Céladon"—the French word for celadon—he utilizes an ice-cool celadon glaze to express a fresh new worldview. The celadon glaze, bordered with gold leaf, features fine crackles that possess the beauty of ice, boasting the high level of perfection one would expect from an artist so devoted to glaze research. Contrasting with the celadon glaze is a matte black glaze that grounds the entire piece, while the gold leaf applied along the edges of the celadon serves as a striking accent. The diagonal fluting (shinogi) creates a sense of dynamic movement in the vessel, and its edges intriguingly emphasize the volume of the celadon glaze. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 7.5cm × Diameter 7.4cm × Height 6.4cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
