Description
This is a new sake cup titled "Bi-Doro" by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is a highly original and exceptional piece, characteristic of Ichikawa-sensei, who gives form to his boundless ideas through clay, the supreme medium. In this new series titled "Bi-Doro," he uses a Mashiko-style body with an ash glaze base, layered with a slightly bluish ash glaze to create a complex color palette. The contrast between the slightly greenish body and the pale blue creates a refreshing landscape, accented perfectly by the "Hagakure-Beni" (hidden-leaf red) glaze that is central to Ichikawa-sensei's work. While shaped by shaving, the piece emphasizes the natural expression of the clay—such as its edges and ridges—alongside the silhouette, further drawing out the inherent charm of the material through the transformation caused by the glazes.
