Description

This is a new rock glass titled "Shino" by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative work that is quintessential Ichikawa, giving form to his ceaseless flow of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. As the title "Shino" suggests, the piece is finished with a feldspar glaze in the Shino style, with gold accents, iron glaze, and ash glaze scattered throughout the soft white glaze. The landscape created by the iron glaze slowly seeping up from beneath the white glaze makes it appear as though the white glaze is melting away like snow in a thaw. Inside the vessel, the thick layers of glaze collide intensely, revealing a variety of kiln transmutations in purple, green, and other colors, in addition to the gold and white glazes. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 10.3cm x Diameter 9.4cm x Height 9.9cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
