Description

This is an Ibe sake cup by Kosuke Yashiro, an artist who spent years in apprenticeship dreaming of working with Bizen ware in the land of Ibe, and finally realized his dream by building his own kiln there to make his debut. It is a quintessential Bizen piece that reflects the spirit of Yashiro-sensei, who was born and raised in Ibe, fell in love with the works of the many potters who lived and died there, and dedicated his life to Bizen ware. The moss-green *kase-goma* (dull sesame glaze) created by firing slowly and carefully in an ascending kiln shows a fine texture and beautiful coloration reminiscent of the Kaneshige school, a finish that demonstrates the kiln-firing mastery Yashiro-sensei acquired over his 15+ years of apprenticeship. Naturally, the *mikomi* (interior) features a deep, tasteful scarlet hue derived from the excellent quality of the clay, providing a magnificent appearance when filled with sake. With its low profile and shallow interior, the cup is small and elegant, making it comfortable to use. Signed wooden box (lid with two crossbars)
Diameter 8.4cm × Diameter 8.3cm × Height 2.5cm Kosuke Yashiro was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido in 1979. Around 2000, he began training under various kilns and artists in Ibe, Bizen City. He built his own kiln and became independent in Ibe in September 2016.
