Description

This is a new Beer will piece, "Oiran," by Toru Ichikawa, who made a brilliant debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptionally creative work that embodies Ichikawa’s signature style of giving form to his ceaseless flow of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. This new glass from the Oiran series features a glaze that is layered to create a profound, rich texture, much like wearing an ornate kimono. This time, vibrant gold accents are combined with a yellow glaze to produce a deep, layered color reminiscent of an oil painting. The yellow glaze, applied with dynamic splashes, exhibits fine variations in tone—appearing thin and streaked in some areas, while forming dense pools in others. The black glazed sections have lost their luster, resembling charred charcoal, which makes the gold and yellow glazes appear as if they are floating against a black background.
