Description

This is a Bizen sake cup by Kosuke Yashiro, who spent his formative years dreaming of working with Bizen ware in Imbe, eventually realizing his long-held ambition by building his own kiln there and making his debut. It is a quintessential Bizen piece that reflects the spirit of Yashiro-sensei, who dedicated his life to the craft after falling in love with the works of the many potters who were born, raised, and passed away in Imbe. The piece features the intense firing characteristic of Yashiro-sensei's style, with well-melted sesame glaze (goma) displaying a unique hue that shifts between yellow-green and gold. The intense firing has also brought about significant changes in the clay body; the soft caramel-brown base is overlaid with gold accents, creating an elegant and beautiful appearance, as if thinly coated in platinum. Signed wooden box (double-slatted lid)
Diameter 6.8cm × Diameter 6.5cm × Height 6.7cm Kosuke Yashiro was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido in 1979. Around 2000, he began his apprenticeship under various kilns and artists in Imbe, Bizen City. He established his own kiln and became an independent artist in September 2016.
