Description
This Bizen beer cup is the work of Kosuke Yashiro, who spent his formative years dreaming of working with Bizen ware in Imbe, and finally realized his lifelong ambition by building his own kiln there to make his debut. It is a quintessential piece of Bizen ware, true to the style of Yashiro-sensei, who has dedicated his life to the craft after falling in love with the works of the many potters born, raised, and laid to rest in the land of Imbe. The cup features the rich, mellow earthy quality characteristic of Yashiro-sensei, covered in a well-melted yellow sesame glaze. The clay, which must have been painstakingly prepared, blossomed beautifully through careful kiln firing, resulting in a unique palette of overlapping colors such as shiso-red, orange, and brown. While rising from the base in a gentle hexagonal shape, the rim is hand-molded to avoid an overly deliberate feel, skillfully diffusing the sense of artifice.
