Description

This is the new sake cup by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakinuma—"Céladon №6." It is an exceptional work, full of the originality characteristic of Ichikawa-sensei, who gives form to his ceaseless flow of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. True to its title, "Céladon," which means celadon in French, it uses a cool, ice-like celadon glaze to express a new worldview. The celadon glaze, edged with gold leaf, features fine crackles that possess an icy beauty, boasting the high level of perfection expected of Ichikawa-sensei, who is passionate about glaze research. Complementing the celadon glaze is a matte black glaze that tightens the overall look, while the gold leaf applied to edge the celadon glaze provides an excellent accent. The diagonal fluting (shinogi) creates a sense of great movement in the vessel, and the edges interestingly emphasize the volume of the celadon glaze. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.2cm × Diameter 6.6cm × Height 6.5cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began studying under Ryuichi Kakinuma in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
