Description

This is a new Bizen sake cup by Tamon Kaneshige, who continues to hone his craft on the demanding path of pottery, following in the footsteps of his father, the late Susumu Kaneshige. For this particular kiln firing, he aimed to prioritize "kase-goma" (matte ash glaze) over the "hai-kaburi" (heavy ash coating) of previous firings. As a result, the work is adorned throughout with a beautiful, slightly bluish matte ash glaze, a characteristic of the Maruyama kiln that he shares with his father. Furthermore, the "hi-iro" (scarlet flame marking) on the front is exceptionally beautiful; the rich shiso-red and scarlet hues, born from the high-quality clay considered the finest in Bizen, possess a depth that is difficult to describe in words. Signed wooden box to be provided at a later date (please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 6.5cm × Diameter 6.1cm × Height 7.1cm Tamon Kaneshige was born in Okayama City in 1977. He graduated from the Faculty of Business and Commerce at Keio University in 2000. In 2004, he began his journey in pottery under his father, Susumu Kaneshige. He held his first solo exhibition at Okayama Tenmaya in 2011.
