Description

This is a new Shigaraki sake cup by Tamon Kaneshige, who continues to hone his craft on the demanding path of pottery, following in the footsteps of his father, the late Susumu Kaneshige. It is crafted using high-quality Shigaraki clay left behind by Susumu-sensei, and the beautiful scarlet color of the clay body is profoundly expressive. Fired in the hottest part of the Maruyama kiln, it has absorbed ample smoke, resulting in a natural glaze of yellow, black, and white that beautifully complements the base scarlet hue. While the form is large and powerful, it features a constriction to ensure a comfortable grip, and the rim has been reshaped into a triangular form. Signed wooden box to follow at a later date (please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 7.1cm × Diameter 6.7cm × Height 5.8cm Tamon Kaneshige was born in Okayama City in 1977. He graduated from the Faculty of Business and Commerce at Keio University in 2000. In 2004, he began his path in pottery under his father, Susumu Kaneshige. In 2011, he held a solo exhibition at Okayama Tenmaya.
