Description

This is a new Bizen sake cup by Tamon Kaneshige, who continues to hone his skills on the rigorous path of pottery, following in the footsteps of his father, the late Susumu Kaneshige. For this firing, he aimed to focus on achieving *kase-goma* (dry, crusty sesame glaze) rather than *haikaburi* (ash-covered glaze). As a result, pieces with significant *yohen* (kiln change) effects are rare, making this an exceptional and scarce work. As with his previous collection, this piece is crafted using *suihi-do* (levigated clay)—a rarity among the Kaneshige family—in an approach designed to appeal to those new to Bizen ware and to his own generation, with a focus on pleasant mouthfeel and tactile comfort. Despite this, it features a distinct black-silver ash covering, offering a breathtaking aesthetic that will satisfy even longtime Bizen enthusiasts. Signed wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 9.0cm × Diameter 8.9cm × Height 3.1cm Tamon Kaneshige was born in Okayama City in 1977. He graduated from the Faculty of Business and Commerce at Keio University in 2000. In 2004, he began his path in ceramics under his father, Susumu Kaneshige. He held his first solo exhibition at Okayama Tenmaya in 2011.
