Description
This is a new Bizen mukozuke (small dish) by Tamon Kaneshige, who continues to hone his craft on the rigorous path of pottery, following in the footsteps of his father, the late Susumu Kaneshige. True to the Kaneshige family tradition of carefully preparing their own clay before use, this piece exhibits a magnificent, deeply flavorful earth tone. The artist has used a portion of high-quality rice field clay with a slightly higher sand content; this bright, caramel-brown texture, speckled with numerous tiny sand grains, is a signature highlight of the Susumu Kaneshige lineage. The work is further accented by dry, yellow sesame glaze (kama-goma) and subtle fire-cord (hi-dasuki) markings. When in use, the piece absorbs moisture, transforming beautifully and exuding a remarkable allure.
