Shuten C- "Premium Edition"

This is the new sake cup, "Premium Edition," by Toru Ichikawa, who studied under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and made a sensational debut. It is a highly original and exceptional piece, characteristic of Ichikawa-sensei, who gives form to his endlessly overflowing ideas through the supreme medium of clay. The "Consciousness" in the title is a philosophical term truly fitting for Ichikawa-sensei. While inheriting the characteristics of the Consciousness series, which is based in red and black, this piece features even bolder scenery, with gold and red glazes splashed on with dynamic intensity, and ash applied by opening the kiln during the firing process. The splashed ash glaze looks like molten gold, while on top of the black glaze, it takes on a pale, bluish tone reminiscent of straw-ash glaze, creating a scene with a powerful impact.
