Description
This is a newly fired Ibe sake cup by Yuho Kaneshige, an artist who, despite belonging to the illustrious Kaneshige family, constantly questions his own practice and creates works as an individual potter—simply Yuho, rather than "Kaneshige Yuho." Alongside the *haikaburi yohen* (ash-covered kiln-changed) piece which is the highlight of this collection, this sake cup is highly popular for its beautiful green *kase-goma* (matte-fired sesame glaze). The balance between the *kase-goma* and the texture of the clay is exquisite; while it is a *kase-goma* piece, the true protagonist remains the *tsuchiaji* (character of the clay). The *kase-goma* that falls from the rim to the body fades away gradually like light snow, revealing the superb quality of the clay sleeping beneath. You can fully savor this premium clay texture, discovered only because of Kaneshige's dedication to approaching the essence of Bizen through diverse perspectives.
