Description

This is an earlier Bizen sake cup by Nakamura Shin, a renowned maker of sake ware and tableware and the eldest son of the late Bizen master Rokuro Nakamura. It features the signature Nakamura family style with a faint scarlet "nuke" (clear patch), combined with "sangiri" (kiln-altered coloring) and a slightly matte "goma" (ash glaze). The interior also features a soft scarlet hue, reflecting the care for how the sake looks when poured—a hallmark of Shin Nakamura, who was known as a dedicated lover of sake. It has a large, powerful form, and holding it in your hand while drinking makes the sake taste exceptional. (*Due to the shape of the foot, it may be slightly unsteady.) (*There are no signs of wear or dirt, but please note that this is an earlier work.) Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
Diameter 7.5cm × Diameter 7.5cm × Height 5.6cm Born as the eldest son of Rokuro Nakamura, Shin Nakamura began learning the fundamentals from his father in 1971, dedicating himself to mastering the craft. To study the firing techniques of Living National Treasure Toyo Kaneshige, he spent ten years assisting and receiving guidance from Michiaki Kaneshige during kiln firings. He became independent in 1975. He primarily creates tea ceremony ceramics and tableware, including flower vases, sake bottles, and sake cups. He holds active solo exhibitions across Japan, including in Tokyo, Okayama, and Nagoya.
