Description

This Shigaraki sake cup is the work of Tomio Ochi, an artist who diligently dedicated himself to kiln firing under the guidance of Anjin Abe, pouring his insatiable creative passion into his pottery. This piece represents a new challenge for Ochi-sensei; he utilized clay that he and Abe-sensei had gathered together in Shigaraki in the past, and employed a multi-firing process similar to that used for his Bizen works. The clay body exhibits the soft orange hue characteristic of Shigaraki, while Ochi-sensei’s masterful firing technique has imbued the entire piece with a unique luster, as if it were perpetually wet. A pale green natural ash glaze pools in the interior, creating a beautiful backdrop for sake. Storage box to follow (please allow some time for delivery)
