Glass C - "Premium Edition"

This is a new sake glass, C-“Premium Edition,” by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is a highly original and exceptional piece, characteristic of Ichikawa sensei, who gives form to his ceaseless flow of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. The title, “Consciousness,” is truly philosophical, as is typical of Ichikawa sensei. While inheriting the characteristics of the Consciousness series, which is based on red and black, this piece features a bolder aesthetic, with gold and red glazes splashed on with dynamic intensity, and ash applied by opening the kiln during the firing process. The poured ash glaze looks like molten gold, and where it rests on the black glaze, it takes on a pale blue tone similar to straw-ash glaze, creating a landscape with a powerful impact.
