Description

This Bizen beer mug is the work of Masao Akiya, a potter who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality amidst a fresh spirit. While the form is simple, the design is truly sophisticated, characteristic of the Isezaki school, which excels in design even within the Bizen tradition. In contrast, the firing thoroughly pursues the essence of Bizen ware, featuring an earthy texture woven from complex colors overlaid with a refined sangiri (kiln-altered) pattern. The Bizen surface has many fine irregularities, which create a fine, creamy foam when beer is poured. Paper box

After ten years of training, he built his own kiln in Bizen and became independent in 2008, with his first firing taking place in 2009. He has been selected for the Tanabe Museum of Art’s "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" and the Japan Kōgei Association Chugoku Branch Exhibition, and has received awards including the Okayama Prefectural Art Exhibition Prize and the Encouragement Prize.
