Description

This Oribe rough-clay small bowl is the work of Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to create crafts that suit modern life. This Oribe-Bizen piece is designed to leverage both the stain resistance and usability of Oribe glazing, and the character development and changes that occur with use thanks to the Bizen clay. In particular, this piece is made with a rough-clay base coated in Oribe glaze; while the rough clay influences the glaze tone to create an overall rustic, weathered color, the Oribe glaze effectively coats the texture of the rough clay, which can otherwise be a matter of personal preference. Taking advantage of his location in Osaka, Mr. Nakahara receives custom orders from many fine restaurants and eateries, and this piece is charming for the meticulous attention to detail typical of his work.
