Description
This is a rough Oribe clay small bowl by Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to create works that suit contemporary life. It is an Oribe-Bizen piece designed to capture both the stain resistance and ease of use provided by Oribe glazing, and the way the Bizen clay matures and changes with use. This particular work is based in rough clay coated with Oribe glaze; while the rough clay influences the glaze texture to create an overall subdued and weathered hue, the Oribe glaze effectively coats the texture of the rough clay, which can be a matter of personal preference. True to Nakahara-sensei's reputation for receiving commissioned work from numerous high-end restaurants and dining establishments—a benefit of being based in Osaka—the design is meticulously crafted down to the smallest detail.
